Yavapai College Prescott OLLI presents 3rd Annual Reti Speaker Series Nov. 1
Prescott, Arizona (October 7, 2025) – Avid traveler and area resident Chris Maxwell will guide viewers on a whirlwind tour of the world’s many unique and fascinating places, to demonstrate how travel can amaze, educate and fortify us – outside and in. Yavapai College’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute presents Journeys That Unite Us, the third annual Jane Reti Speaker Series, Saturday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m., at the Prescott Campus Community Room.
“Travel renews your sense of gratitude and helps you get out of your comfort zone,” Maxwell said. “Your perspectives change as you experience and learn about different cultural, historical, economic, religious and political viewpoints. It isn’t always about the destination but learning new ways of looking at things to become more tolerant, flexible, and open-minded.”
A former teacher and software engineer with Bell Laboratories, Chris Maxwell came late to the world of travel. With her husband, Bill, an inveterate skier and backpacker, she began hitting ski slopes and national parks before expanding to Canada, Mexico, Peru and the Lesser Antilles. Her adventures have taken her across the Caribbean, as well as to Central and South America, Nepal, Tanzania, Kenya, India, Australia and the Galapagos Islands.
Along with highlighting her own remarkable adventures, Maxwell’s digital tour will include tips for creating one’s own personal odyssey. She will offer suggestions for arranging an itinerary, hiring reputable tour companies, and more.
Journeys That Unite Us is the third annual presentation of the Jane Reti Speaker Series,   which began in 2023. “This program is the result of Andy Reti’s generous grant,” said OLLI Director Tricia Berlowe. “It honors Jane’s commitment to new ideas, engaging in continuous learning, helping people in need, supporting the arts and sharing the joy that comes from active curiosity.”
Reservations are open now for Journeys That Unite Us. The presentation is free of charge, and open to the public but seating is limited and reservations are required to save space. The event will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, in Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus Community Room, Bldg. 19. Room 147, at 1100 E. Sheldon Street. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Reservations can be made by visiting: www.yc.edu/reti or call OLLI at: (928) 717-7634.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is part of Yavapai College’s Division of Lifelong Learning. OLLI programs stimulate the mind, foster creativity, expand cultural appreciation and build lasting friendships. OLLI invites senior adult learners to enhance their knowledge, meet new people and relish the educational experience. Visit yc.edu/olli or call 928-717-7634 for information about membership and opportunities.
Yavapai College operates seven campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County and offers over one hundred degrees and certificates, four baccalaureate degrees, student and community services, and cultural events and activities. To learn more about YC, visit www.yc.edu.
