Sedona, AZ — I have an idea on how to help resolve the illegal immigrant problem in the U.S. while at the same time solving our military enlistment dilemma.
I think the best way to do so is to is to offer every male or female illegal immigrant who is of military age, has no criminal record, and can speak or is willing to learn how to speak English, an opportunity to join our armed forces, as a way of earning citizenship.
Illegal immigrants willing to join the military and even lay down their lives to protect our country would earn their right to call themselves Americans by enlisting.
Right now, our country is facing extremely low enlistment rates and further, our pool of able bodied and mentally capable young men and women is dwindling.
Members of the Gen Z generation, those born between 1997 and 2012, who are now of. military-age are far more less likely to enlist and serve.
One can be sure that the lack of a strong youth, and also the low scores of our young in reading, writing and math skills, in the long run will negatively affect our fighting power and readiness for war.
According to the Berkeley Political Review, Gen Z’s lack the patriotism and aversion to enlist or serve are mostly being fueled by the internet and social media.
Poor mental and physical health caused by social media has festered in the internet-addicted Gen Z.
According to the article, the Pentagon estimates that only about 23% of American young adults can meet physical military requirements, and of this 23% that are eligible to serve, only about 9% have any inclination to do so.
There is also the problem of young Americans viewing military service as a path to PTSD and mental health issues.
The article quotes a Defense Department survey, that, about 57% of young Americans who answered stated their concern that they would suffer from emotional or psychological problems after serving in the military, likely because Gen Z has largely seen media depictions of veterans suffering from PTSD and homelessness.
Additionally, applications to service academies have fallen drastically, with the Air Force Academy seeing a 28% drop and the Naval Academy seeing a 20% drop between 2021 and 2022, according to the article.
According to the article, platforms like TikTok are bastions of partisan and propagandistic anti-American content (fueled by Chinese ownership of the platform), which could be correlated to the decline in patriotism among Gen Z. This also contributes to a decline in confidence in the American military that is currently happening.
Gen Z’ simply do not want to serve, do not believe in the country, view enlistment in the armed services for stupid people only, could not meet the physical rigors a combat soldier needs, do not trust the government and are unwilling to kill, be maimed or die to keep what they consider a corrupt system in power.
The military needs to be re-stocked but Gen Z is tainted and cannot answer the call or fill the need. Our military is in trouble. And so is the country should another global conflict arise.
But for illegal immigrants there is motivation. A motivation that would refill our military with people who would fight for our country to become American citizens.
These able-bodied recruits from the immigrant pool are most likely stronger and willing to take risks by illegally entering our country, building a life, only to face deportation.
They have a solid reason to enlist. Freedom!
These new soldiers would be more motivated because at the end of their service they would be able to rebuild their lives and remain in the states with their loved ones who already are citizens.
Given a choice, whether to leave the country or serve in it’s military, I’ll bet these illegal immigrants would choose the former.
And those who are criminals, round them up and kick then the hell out, never to return.

This option already exist(s)(ed). When I was in I knew many people who were serving in order to obtain citizenship. Most Hispanic soldiers were used to fight the “War on Drugs” and many soldiers of Eastern European origin were used in Linguistic/Intelligence capacities.
The Orange Moron and his MAGA MINIONS do not see the value of having soldiers who are not White Males in it’s ranks despite the hundreds of thousands of documented instances they are in the process of destroying from record, of M’erica’s bravest men, women, Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, and even Gay and Trans soldiers who went above and beyond in combat. Unlike the Orange Draft Dodging, Veteran/POW/MIA/Gold Star Family Member Slandering, Treasonous Felonious Insurrectionist Putin Puppet who has never had anyone in his family history don a uniform in defense of their country.
I’m certain MAGA sycophants like Drunky Misogynist Hegseth are working to purge all non white males from all of government to include the military. They have begun by eliminating all of the non white male leadership both Enlisted and Commissioned. And of course they are purging all people from their government jobs who voted against his MajASSty ill Douch’e.
Anyone who has ever served in combat has quickly learned that color, religion and sex have jack to do with team and individual survival. What matters is being a team and doing what one is trained to do to the best of one’s ability. Anyone can pull a damned trigger even a monkey! Sorry monkeys! But it takes a special person to react under hostile fire and save as many lives as possible. The persons normally doing the life saving are those to your left and right. They have no sex, no color and no religion. All they care about is their teammates and doing their jobs. Anyone who says otherwise has never heard a shot fired in anger I assure you.
Here’s a little known fact about Hispanics in Vietnam. Many were assigned to and performed heroically in MACVSOG. Many due to their smaller statures were assigned as or volunteered to be Tunnel Rats whose incredibly dangerous job it was to physically enter enemy tunnel systems with little more than a handgun and flashlight. Everything done to remove the documentation of these heroes and their exploits under fire is nothing short of CRIMINAL and EXTREMELY IGNORANT and FASCIST.
Removing the history of the Enola Gay is about the most ignorant thing I have seen in my lifetime other than our country electing a Criminal Felon.
Woke policies are being eliminated in the military since the Trump election and enlistment is at an all time high now.
By “woke” you mean humane and respectful? The only type of person going into the military now are Dumpy pardoned war criminals, Dumpy pardoned Insurrectionist, Dumpy White Supremacists and those who were previously denied entry due to extreme obesity, lack of physical and mental aptitude, disregarding lawful orders to vaccinate as part of a force protection mandate and most of all- being the less qualified person for their position because the elimination of DEI and Civil Rights initiatives have made federal employment unfair and unbalanced to higher qualified applicants of color who far out qualify their white peers.

The Army is grappling with a staggering attrition rate among newly enlisted troops, even as recent recruiting figures suggest the service is clawing its way out of a yearslong enlistment crisis.

While the Army’s recruiting totals look solid on paper, a high dropout rate raises serious doubts about whether those numbers are an accurate portrayal of how well the service is manned.
If you are an Army veteran who served on Active Duty then you’d know there are/were thousands of non US Citizens serving their country while earning their citizenship through service.
Most Western European countries had mandatory military service requirements during the Cold War (that Bigly war we fought against Rusher for world domination). Most countries did away with mandatory service in the late 80’s early 90’s when the Berlin Wall collapsed. Some like Finland and Norway are reinstating their service requirements since they now definitively know that the US has zero intentions upon helping any of our traditional allies while granting our historical enemies permission to do as they please.

Ms Winters you are correct in your overview of the US Army’s recruiting and retention issues. This is part of the problem.
Lying to troops about non existent WMD’s in order to justify the invasion of Iraq in 2000 did significant damage to the military’s credibility in the eyes of potential recruits.
Lying to veterans wounded/injured in the line of duty about benefits they may or may not receive despite being promised they would contractually receive them.
And taking 20-30 years to review an individuals service records to verify their claims has also done significant damage to the military’s ability to recruit qualified personnel.
Add all of that to the degradation and shameful disrespect shown our service members who are women, gay, of color, are non Evangelical or have served our country honorably only to be WRONGFULLY TERMINATED solely for being a woman, gay, of color and non Evangelicals by Trump and his Uber Wealthy Afrikaner. Neither of which has ever served nor has anyone in their entire family lineages. This ignorance alone has done more harm to our nation’s security and combat readiness than Dump’s recent order halting counter surveillance and counter cyber operations against his BFF Putin which is an act of High Treason in and of itself.
Recruitment is not going to be an issue when we begin Un Civil War II at the same time Rusher, Chyyner, N Koreaer and the Ayatollah begin their WWIII assault upon NATO, the EU and US. You will either fight or die. It’s that simple. No recruitment necessary. Sex, color and religion won’t mean jack when the lead starts flying.

You may not be aware that Mexico has mandatory registration and military conscription for young males 18 years old.. Not all are called for service but all must register. Also, some countries will revoke your citizenship if you serve in the military of a foreign country. As a US Army veteran I don’t think you would find much enthusiasm by illegal aliens to join the US Military.
The French have the Légion étrangère, also known simply as la Légion. Ukraine has the Інтернаціональний легіон. The UK loans out SAS troops as “tactical and technical advisers” they also have several Private Military Companies or PMC’s that go back to 1960’-1980’s Rhodesia and Sierra Leone. The US has Blackwater, North Bridges and other PMC’s but they are not part of the military.
Perhaps one solution for lower income migrants to earn citizenship would be to enlist them into what would be America’s 6th Branch of Service that would consist of migrant volunteers who have no criminal record and show an aptitude for mission essential tasks such as linguistics, computer skills, medical etc. This American “Foreign Legion” would train and deploy in conjunction with our SPEC OPs Community and provide them with HUMIT and Interpretation.
Like French Legionaries, citizenship is granted following 3 years consecutive honorable service or being Combat Wounded which is an automatic qualification for citizenship (I would put I. A clause requiring the wound to be the direct result of direct hostile fire, not allow just any wound to qualify like the US military tends to do with Purple Heart Medals which have been granted to tactical signal corps linemen who got splinters in their tushies wiring telephone poles).
