City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (January 11, 2019) – Get some fresh air, exercise and a lot of brownie points for helping your community. And a free lunch.

Volunteers are needed to complete trail work at Sedona Bike Skills Park. Local bike shop owners and city staff will host a volunteer day Jan. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the park to get things ship shape before thousands of riders descend this spring. Volunteers will move dirt, pack dirt, shape trails, and perform other duties with special attention needed on the dual slalom track.

20190111_bsp1Equipment will be provided but bring your own gloves if you have them. Volunteers should meet at the Bike Skills Park located within Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Rd., at 10 a.m. A pizza lunch has been donated by Over The Edge bike shop in Sedona, and trail work will continue until 3 p.m.

Bike Skills Park is a 13 acre park that boasts three flow trails, pump park, tot loop and dual slalom. All of the trails are maintained by one staff member who works alongside volunteers. In addition to this month’s special work, volunteers are needed year round and new bike enthusiasts are encouraged to join us in keeping our trails safe, fun to ride, and something to brag about.

The city would like to thank Over The Edge bike shop owner Mike Raney for coordinating this volunteer event.

    By Tommy Acosta

In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
