On Thursday September 14 the Friends of the Forest (FOF) is hosting a new member welcome event at 360 Brewer Road in Sedona.  FOF looks forward to seeing not only new members, but also anyone interested in learning about and hopefully joining our organization.

At this event, you’ll learn about Friends of the Forest and the activities you can volunteer for. You’ll hear from District Ranger Amy Tinderholt about the value FOF brings to the Forest Service, watch a short video about FOF’s first 25 years of service and learn about the benefits of membership.

FOF supports the Red Rock District by assisting in the maintenance of trails, educating visitors at the Red Rock Visitor Center, removing graffiti, reducing damage caused by human impact, engaging in research projects as citizen scientists, enhancing the outdoor experience for all, and more. It provides a way for volunteers to establish long-lasting friendships while contributing to the community and making a real difference. FOF offers volunteer opportunities for everyone: inside or out, alone or with others, easy or strenuous.

With visitation increasing every year, more and more stress is put on our natural resources.  FOF helps relieve that stress, enhancing the natural experience for visitors and residents alike.

To help Friends of the Forest protect the natural beauty of Sedona and the Verde Valley, please join us at 2:00 pm on Thursday September 14 at the Keep Sedona Beautiful building, 360 Brewer Road in Sedona. To learn more, visit www.friendsoftheforestsedona.org.

    A Bad Moon Rising

    By Tommy Acosta
What the hell is going on? Is the fabric of society in the U.S. tearing apart at the seams? Watching those videos of teens gone wild, smashing windows, stealing from shopping centers, laughing while running over bicyclists — an omen of things to come? What can be done? Catch them? Incarcerate them. Put them in jails until they learn enough about crime to come out as skilled criminals? These kids, these young men and women of color, are growing wild in the streets. From fatherless homes, unable to properly read or write, a dismal and destitute future ahead of them. What is going to happen when they reach adulthood? The cops can’t stop them. There are simply too many. They can flash mob a phalanx of cops and just run berserk around them. What are the police to do? Shoot them? Read more→
