    Understanding Your Dog Builds Love

    Sedona, AZ (July 7, 2011) – Sedona Parks and Recreation is offering three unique and informative seminars on dog behavior related topics. Choose which topic is right for your pet needs and register today with Parks and Recreation. On Sunday, July 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., is the Canine Behavior Seminar. This informative and interactive seminar covers “need to know” topics including phases of development, how dogs think, ritualized behavior, canine negotiating signals, calming signals, common problems, communicating with our dogs, training, and proper socialization. On Sunday, July 17, from 4:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. is the Puppy Seminar. This seminar covers puppy behavior, puppy problem solving, how puppies learn, proper socialization, the critical phases of development, breed specifics, puppy training and more. It is a great seminar for anyone either considering getting a new puppy or if you already have one and would like more information on how to raise them properly. Both of these seminars will be held in the Recreation Room at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Ground Road in Sedona.

    On Tuesday, July 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., we will be offering Understanding Canine Body Language Seminar in the Vultee Conference Room located in the Sedona City Hall Complex at 102 Roadrunner Drive. Learn to read your dog’s signals such as what are they trying to communicate to you or other dogs. Avoid problems before they occur and learn what warning signs predict aggressive actions. Learn about fear, stress, calming signals, negotiating signals and other forms of body language communication to be able to understand and communicate with your dog.

    All seminars are dog free, so please leave your pet at home. For seminar registration fees and additional information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 928-282-7098.     City Council Weighs ATV Ban Ordinance Proposal

    The Sedona City Council at its May 23, 2023 meeting took no action on a proposed ordinance that would ban all off-road vehicles from being driven on state-owned public roads or streets owned by the city. The ordinance, spearheaded by Sedona Mayor Scott Jablow on the premise that such vehicles pose a risk to the health, safety and welfare of the community, would impose heavy fines to anyone driving the ATVs or OHVs on city streets, including S.R. 179 and S.R. 89A. ATV rental companies have admitted that such vehicles are not intended or designed to be driven on paved roads, yet, in Arizona, they are allowed to do so under Arizona Revised Statute 28-1174 (4B). Opponents against the ordinance argued at the meeting that if adopted the ban would cripple the ATV rental industry in Sedona and cause much hardship to the owners and employees, as it would effectively, as written, destroy their livelihood.
