Sedona News – Professional photographer and digital artist Dale O’Dell will present at the meeting of the Sedona Camera Club starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 28th, at the Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Rd, Sedona.  Doors open at 5:30.

O’Dell will discuss how AI is beginning to be used in contemporary photography.   Specifically, he’ll be discussing his own journey to AI, his initial experiments and some of his newest AI works that have been published.  The philosophical issues raised by AI are complex and mystifying so he’ll be mainly discussing practical commercial use of AI imagery when used in a photographic context.

Dale explains:  “Artificial Intelligence is too broad a subject to tackle in a 45 minute presentation, so I will not address many of the conceptual questions raised by AI.”

Originally from Texas, Dale lives in Prescott, Arizona.  He was given his first camera at age 13 and at that moment knew what he wanted to do in life.  Photography was the perfect blend of art and science and Dale immersed himself in the aesthetics and chemistry of photography.  In 1982 he received a degree in Photography from Sam Houston State University.

Dale is a consummate experimenter and innovator and works with diverse subjects in a variety of styles.  In 1983 Dale published the first wholly computer-generated artwork ever used in advertising.  He has published twenty art books and is currently at work on number twenty-one, a currently untitled illustrated science-fiction story.  Dale authored one of the first ever art books published in the eBook format.  He has been creating inventive photographs and digital art for almost fifty years.

As a fine artist Dale has exhibited in over three-hundred group and solo exhibitions;  as a commercial photographer he’s produced photography and photo/digital illustration for an international clientele including many of the Fortune 500 companies.  He has written for most of the leading photographic magazines including Photo District News, PC Photo, E-Digital Photo, LensWork, and Professional Photographer.

In recent years Dale has worked on several Documentary Photography Projects including “Messages from the Past,” documentation, restoration and reinterpretation of ancient Indian Rock Art in the Southwest United States.

Presentations, hosted by the Sedona Camera Club, are free to members.  There is a $5 fee for guests.  Local photographers are encouraged to join to support bringing high-quality speakers to promote interest in photography and develop photographic skills.  Membership costs $35 for the whole year.  For more information on the Sedona Camera Club, go to sedonacamera.club.

    Compassion Has no Party

Whether you are Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, one truth remains: the vast majority of people on this planet are, at their core, decent. They believe in fairness, in dignity, and in the simple idea that other human beings matter.
