logo_townofclarkdaleClarkdale AZ (December 9, 2013) – Starting on December 14, the Town of Clarkdale will be sponsoring a scavenger hunt to kick-off the recently established Arts & Entertainment District. Maps and cards are available at the Community Development Department at 890 Main Street and at participating businesses in the historic Clarkdale business area.

To participate, everyone is encouraged to pick up a map and card and patronize participating businesses within the District between December 14 and January 20, 2014 to get their cards marked.

This event is being coordinated during Buy Local Month with the assistance of Local First Arizona. The Town and many of the participating businesses are members of this organization. Local First Arizona provides support to foster and strengthen local businesses and help build vibrant communities.

The scavenger hunt is a wonderful opportunity to visit the diverse businesses within Clarkdale; try out the newcomers and re-visit old favorites for good food, shopping, museums and art galleries.

Cards with marks from eight of the twelve participating businesses may be returned to the Community Development Department at 890 Main Street in Clarkdale for entry into a prize raffle. Cards must be received by January 30, 2014. Prizes include a gift basket from National Bank, gift certificates from Su Casa and Verde Canyon Railroad, plus other treasures.

Raffle winners will be announced on January 31, 2014 at a Local First mixer in the Clark Memorial Clubhouse at 19 N. Ninth Street. Winners need not be present to win and will be notified via email or phone.

Questions should be directed to the Community Development Department at 928-639-2500.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
