Sedona AZ (August 16, 2016) – The city of Sedona is currently seeking to fill three positions on the Historic Preservation Commission, because three current members’ terms will be expiring. This voluntary body is made up of seven citizens appointed and established by City Council to promote and protect Sedona’s historic character and identity.
More specifically, as an extension of the Arizona State Preservation Office, the Historic Preservation Commission reviews the approval of restoration and improvements to designated historical landmark homes and properties. The commission’s service is part of a larger effort state and nation wide to preserve historic landmarks, which in Sedona relates mainly to the city’s pioneer heritage.
“Preserving Sedona’s history is an important element of the community fabric linking us all to the past pioneers of this great place. Volunteers on the Historic Preservation Commission play a key role in helping the city maintain this link to the past for current and future residents and visitors,” said Warren Campbell, assistant community development director.
Applicants will need to demonstrate experience or knowledge in at least one of the following: history, architectural history, architecture, historic interiors, historic architecture, planning archaeology, historic archaeology, real estate, historic preservation law or any other historic preservation related field.
The term of service for each of the voluntary positions begins December 1, 2016 and ends on November 30, 2019. Those interested in serving on the Historic Preservation Commission can receive an application by picking one up from the City Clerk’s office at City Hall located at 102 Roadrunner Drive, or by calling 928-282-3113. Please return completed applications to the City Clerk’s office by Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 5 p.m.
