City of Sedona ArizonaSedona AZ (January 20, 2016) – Would you like to know how Sedona City Hall works? Do you want to have a voice in the future of the city of Sedona? These questions and others will be answered at the Citizens Academy, a program offered to educate and reach out to the community. Residents will have the opportunity to meet with the Sedona City Council and various department staff to better understand city operations and issues.

The Citizens Academy begins on Thursday, March 24. It will run for seven weeks every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sedona City Hall. This free program is open to city of Sedona residents who are 16 years and older. Those younger than 18 will need a signed waiver by a parent/guardian. Class size is limited to 20 participants and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Citizens who complete the academy are encouraged to participate in the Citizen Engagement Program and/or apply for vacancies on city boards, commissions, and committees. The hope is to identify new leaders in the community and enhance citizen participation in the planning and processes of Sedona.

People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
