Arizona News – What should the Arizona Legislature do to improve groundwater management in rural Arizona? Should legislators take action to protect the Verde River, the only surviving living river in Arizona?
Candidates for Legislative District 1 (LD1) will be discussing these water-related questions and more during a virtual forum conducted by the Citizens Water Advocacy Group (CWAG). Forum participants will be candidates for the State Senate, Mark Finchem (R) and Mike Fogel (D), and candidates for the State House, Selina Bliss (R- incumbent), Jay Ruby (D), and Marcia Smith (D). Incumbent Quang Nguyễn (R) is unable to participate due to another meeting. The Forum will be live on Zoom on October 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. Citizens must pre-register under “Next Event” at cwagaz.org. A recording of the LD1 Forum will be available for later viewing.
Each candidate will be provided with the questions and a set of basic facts in advance of the Forum. These documents are posted on CWAG’s website at www.cwagaz.org. Click on “2024 Candidate Forum” under “Current Issues.”
CWAG is nonpartisan, but all water issues are political. The purpose of the LD1 Candidate Forum is to insert water policy into our political and electoral dialogue and to inform voters and candidates about water issues.
CWAG is a local citizens group advocating for a sustainable water future for the Prescott region and central Yavapai County, and for the protection of the upper Verde River. For more information, visit www.cwagaz.org, call 928-445-4218, or email info@cwagaz.org.
