Flagstaff AZ (May 9, 2013) – Many developed campgrounds that have been closed for the winter across Coconino National Forest have reopened and listed below by district:
Red Rock Ranger District
Along the Highway 89A corridor of Oak Creek Canyon:
- Cave Springs
- Manzanita
- Pine Flat East (partially open during dry season) and West campgrounds
Along state Route 179:
- Chavez Crossing Group
Along Forest Road 618:
- Beaver Creek
Along Highway 260:
- Clear Creek
- Clear Creek Group
Along the 89A corridor in Oak Creek canyon are four day-use sites, which are open as posted, usually from dawn to dusk. A day-use fee of $5 per vehicle applies at any time use occurs. All day-use sites have picnic tables, BBQ grills, and restrooms. Overnight use is not allowed at any day-use sites:
- Banjo Bill
- Bootlogger
- Encinoso
- Halfway
Other district day-use sites open from dawn to dusk include:
- Beaver Creek
- Clear Creek
- Crescent Moon
- Grasshopper
Flagstaff Ranger District
Along the Highway 89 corridor the following campgrounds are open:
- Bonito
- Little Elden Springs Horse
- Lockett Meadow (opens May 17)
- O’Leary Group
Along the Lake Mary Road (Forest Highway 3):
- Ashurst Lake
- Canyon Vista
- Dairy Springs
- Dairy Springs Group
- Forked Pine
- Lakeview
- Pinegrove
Also along Lake Mary Road are three day-use sites, which are open as posted, usually from dawn to dusk. A day-use fee of $6 per vehicle applies any time use occurs. All day-use sites have picnic tables, BBQ grills, restrooms and boat launching capabilities. Overnight use is not allowed at any day-use sites:
- Lower Lake Mary
- The Narrows (at Lake Mary)
- Upper Lake Mary
Changes this year include:
- Canyon Vista Trailhead parking – Due to the safety concerns of speeding drivers and to reduce user conflicts at Canyon Vista Campground, day-use parking for the Canyon Vista Trailhead Parking area (for access to the Arizona Trail, Sandy’s Canyon Trail, and “The Pit” climbing area) has been relocated to the front of Canyon Vista Campground. Day-users are encouraged to park at the front of the campground and walk through the campground to get to their destinations.
- Kinnickinick Lake day-use site – Kinnickinick Lake Campground has been converted to a day-use site. It has picnic tables, restrooms and boat launching capabilities. There is no fee to use Kinnickinick Lake day-use site.
- Upper Lake Mary day-use site – Upper Lake Mary day-use site has been configured to allow for a safer flow of traffic along Lake Mary Road. Visitors will be able to utilize the dedicated turn lanes to exit from Lake Mary Road into the day-use site.
Mogollon Rim Ranger District
All of the following campgrounds can be accessed off state Route 87:

- Kehl Springs
- Blue Ridge
- Rock Crossing
- Elk Picnic Group
- Long Valley Work Center Group
- Moqui Group
