logo_campverdecommunitylibraryCamp Verde AZ (October 11, 2017) – Whether you are an author or a reader, you will want to participate in Indie Author Day 2017. Join us Saturday 10/14 between 10a and 2p in the 1st Floor Terracotta Room where authors and readers mingle.

What is an Indie Author? Generally, someone who has self-published works and/or used a small independent press to publish their work. However, it may refer to an attitude of independence that drives the writer to maintain control of his/her work. If you identify as and Indie Author, please contact Library Specialist, Carson Ralston (928-554-8391) to find out how you can participate in the library’s Indie Author Day celebration.

If you are a reader looking for something new to read, want to support and encourage our local authors, and participate in the any or all of the sessions, then this event is for you! Indie Author Day 2017 is free and open to the public. We will offer four different sessions, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, each starting on the hour:

    • 12:00p: Indie Author open mic with 5 minutes per reading and/or a chance to give us a glimpse behind the scenes of the writing or inspiration process.
    • 1:00p: Meet the Indie Authors, network, chat and browse the books for sale.

Camp Verde’s Indie Author Day is part of the second annual Indie Author Day international event. Last year, nearly 300 libraries hosted thousands of authors across the United States and Canada. This year, high participation is expected again as communities create an opportunity for the Indie community to come together in the library.

Be sure to checkout our special display of books by local authors, then stop by and see who you might meet on Saturday 10/14 at our Indie Author Day event. Camp Verde Community Library is located at 130 Black Bridge Road, Camp Verde AZ. For more information about this or any other library program, go to www.cvlibrary.org or contact us at 928-554-8380.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
