Arizona News – Volunteers with the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Adopt a Highway program make a difference throughout the year, but the combination of Arizona Volunteer Week and Earth Day provides even more reason to get involved. With that in mind, a group of dedicated Arizonans joined a special Adopt a Highway cleanup in Phoenix early Monday, April 22. In addition to picking up more than 20 large bags of litter in State Route 143 right of way well away from travel lanes, this event was an opportunity for new volunteers to experience Adopt a Highway and for current volunteers to demonstrate…

By Amaya Gayle Gregory It’s been an interesting evening. Well, it’s been like this for a while, but I am just now attempting to put words to it. Why? Because I can. That’s as close as I can get. It feels like I’m playing a game of Clue and polishing the pieces that have emerged, fascinated by them and aware that something has changed again. I can’t seem to garner any interest in doing, let alone thinking. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just what is. I feel more and more pixelated, like the space between pixels is expanding beyond…

… another shot of an Osprey as he leaves his perch at our arrival in the shallow branch off Castle Hot Springs Bay … a couple talons just leaving the branch he was perched on with legs extended after the initial thrust and the wings about to begin a power stroke as he enters flight. Yesterday was an exceptional day for getting excellent shots of many different birds engaged in the daily search for food. A friend wrote regarding the sunset photos and said that there is nothing like a sunset over the ocean and I agree. The photo below…

Opinion: By Steve Segner On April 17th, 2024, I attended the lightly attended “Meet the Candidates” event at Elks Lodge, sponsored by the local Republican group; Sedona Residents Unite (SRU). The Domino’s pizzas and store-branded cookies set the tone for an interesting evening. The audience, mainly comprised of long-time residents, expressed concerns about Sedona’s status as a tourist town and its frustration with the council /city manager/representative form of government. The agenda and talking points asked of each candidate had been created by SRU and included questions that started with a conclusion that they wanted confirmation from the candidates, such…

… the beauty of earth at sunset is readily available from my front door … travel is not necessary and the beauty is beyond belief; regardless of where we live such grandiloquence is there for us to view at home. The sky soon darkened, but I had preserved a memory of beauty that artists paint and poets give life to with words … Below is an image of rocks about 150′ up from the ground on the side of the cliff where I shoot the red tail hawks in the loop area … no hand has touched these rocks other…
