By Tommy Acosta Sedona AZ — I’m OK with and strongly defend an individual’s right to decide their gender. Gender-neutral restrooms? Same-sex marriage? Drag shows? No problem. But it just doesn’t feel right to allow biological males to play on women’s sports teams. It’s not fair. Not safe. It just doesn’t feel right. Males, by their biology, are physically bigger and stronger than women. Having a male on a female team is like having a ringer on your side. There’s no even playing field when you do that. And how come we don’t see biological women playing on men’s teams?…

… the Red Wing Blackbirds are back in force at the ponds and their songs fill the air near sunset as they prepare for the long nights of fall and winter. It seemed to me like this little guy had assumed the role of leader of the band and was encouraging the music that filled the pond where hundreds of Red Wing Blackbirds were filling the reeds in the ponds. I have memories of corn fields in western Minnesota and South Dakota filled with them and towards sunset the air was blackened by them as they moved into the trees to shelter…

By Bear Howard Bear Howard Chronicles Sedona, AZ — Living here in Sedona, Arizona, surrounded by breathtaking red rock landscapes and a vibrant community, I’ve come to love this town for its unique blend of natural beauty, spiritual energy, and artistic expression. But as a resident, I’ve also witnessed a profound transformation reshaping Sedona’s very fabric. This transformation—driven by a mix of political decisions, shifts in the real estate market, and the rapid rise of short-term rentals—has brought benefits for some but deep challenges for many. The housing crisis now gripping our town raises urgent questions about ethics, responsibility, and…

Morality: Should Laws be Made for AI Rights, Welfare and Feelings? By David Stephen There is a recent interactive by Nature, What’s so special about the human brain?, stating that, “The human brain is up to three times larger in volume than the brains of chimpanzees, gorillas and many extinct human relatives. Researchers often use a ratio called the encephalization quotient (EQ) to get an idea of how much larger or smaller an animal’s brain is compared with what would be expected given its body size. By Amaya Gayle Gregory Each ‘you’, could be replaced with I/me. I write from my experience.  The habitual keeps you going round and round on the same track. It tends to spiral downward at a slow enough pace that is it unnoticeable. It is not fresh; it is dead. It is old thinking, old fears, wrapped in the guise of what appears to be this present moment, this unfolding now, tricking you into thinking you are actually fully here. It doesn’t matter how awake you are. You can still be tricked by the habitual mind. It’s tricky, after all. Unaware,…

… you never have to go far to find the beauty of life … it is everywhere, you just have to look. The shot above is a drop of water in two forms, ice and liquid and our home is reflected in it and below a few drops adhering to the leaves of one of the nandina bushes in our yard. Once in a while I take a camera and go through the yard looking for sights like these. My youngest daughter arrived at the Amtrak station in Flagstaff tonight for a visit … trips to the lakes and ponds…
