Arizona News – One of Arcosanti’s most unique experience programs is the River Habitat Restoration Weekend, with two weekends offered in 2025—Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Mar. 1 and Sunday, Mar. 2.

These weekend experiences welcome participants to help the Arcosanti community restore a riparian habitat by harvesting poles from native cottonwood and willow trees and planting them along the Agua Fria River. This volunteer opportunity is part of Arcosanti’s efforts to be an ecosystem restoration community.

    Schedule is as follows:

    • 8-8:30 a.m. – Meet in the Arcosanti Café for orientation
    • 8:30-9 a.m. – Walk down to the Agua Fria River
    • 9 a.m.-noon – Harvest and collection willow and cottonwood poles
    • Noon-1 p.m. – Lunch (provided)
    • 1-3 p.m. – Process poles

These experiences are free; visit eventbrite.com/e/river-habitat-restoration-weekends-at-arcosanti-tickets-1094666509999 to register.

To stay the night, guest rooms, suites and camping spots are available for a charge.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
