Verde Valley Humane SocietyCottonwood AZ (October 15, 2021) – The Verde Valley Humane Society Board of Directors announced that they will be renaming their endowment fund the Penny and Sunny Smith Memorial Endowment Fund. Board President Victoria Bresnan says, “Penny loved the Verde Valley Humane Society and through the Penny and Sunny Smith Memorial Fund her legacy will live on in perpetuity.”

Penny Smith was a special friend to VVHS. Penny was at a low point in her life when tiny Sunny came to her from our shelter. Though he never weighed more than four pounds, he was a giant benefit to Penny. She sincerely believed he changed her life. Our endowment in their names will help bring happiness to others in our community and help provide care for homeless pets in the Verde Valley. Penny’s family is grateful to the VVHS for honoring Penny and establishing a way for her legacy to live on forever.

Donations in honor of Penny can be made in person or by mail to the Verde Valley Humane Society, 1520 W. Mingus Avenue, Cottonwood, AZ 86326, or online at Verdevalleyhumanesociety.org. For more information call

      A beautiful tribute

If you recently moved to Sedona, you may notice that every four years, residents vote on something called Home Rule. The July 21 vote is simply about who controls Sedona’s city budget.

Home Rule allows the city government, Staff with limitations, and Council to spend any money they have on any project they want without regard to voter input.
