Keep Sedona BeautifulSedona AZ (October 14, 2021) – If OHV traffic on the Coconino National Forest is an issue for you, Keep Sedona Beautiful urges you attend the October 26, 4:30 PM, Sedona City Council meeting when OHV problems will be discussed. OHV rental companies and Forest Service will also attend the meeting.

The discussion will include how to manage the uncontrolled OHV traffic on Forest Service Roads 525 (the road to Palatki) and 152C (the unpaved section of Boynton Pass Rd). Note that this area is outside the Sedona city limits.

KSB believes that OHV traffic is causing significant environmental damage, public safety and health hazards, and degradation of the outdoor recreation experience for other road and trail users. Use is constantly increasing, making the problem worse over time. A solution to this significant issue must be identified and implemented.

As an attendee, you can ask to speak for up to 3 minutes about the impact of the OHV traffic. You will need to fill out a speaker’s card when you arrive, and they will call you in the order they receive cards. You can also send comments prior to the meeting to the entire City Council in one communication by clicking on THIS LINK to the Sedona website.

Please consider attending this important meeting at City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive in Sedona.

OHV’s I never did like (I first saw only 1 traveling on 89a well over 10 years ago), but that is me
In any case the cat is out of the bag (here) just like short-term rentals gone wild
I am glad though that KSB and others are trying to address it

You cannot put the companies out of business (nor should you) but maybe the use of OHV hours of use can be regulated in the forest more (ex 9am -4pm winter and summer) so neighbors can have a break from the noise

Maybe you can mandate “guided tours” more to some degree. Unsupervised renters often will leave trails.

Maybe the rental companies can do their own patrols and spot checks daily to make sure the forest (and their equipment) is not being abused
