    Cyclist Injury Collision

    Sedona Police DepartmentSedona AZ (April 27, 2020) – On April 26, 2020, around 9:36 AM, cyclist Betty Winick (66 years old) collided with a vehicle driven by Robert Bemis (78 years old) while both were traveling north on State Route 179 near the traffic circle at Chapel Road. The collision occurred as the vehicles were entering the area of the traffic circle were the bicycle lane ends. The bicycle collided with the right side of the vehicle and veered off the roadway to the right and crashed to the ground.

    Sedona Police Officer Butler was in proximity to the collision when the incident occurred, and he ran to the scene to render immediate aid. Officer Butler rendered CPR until Sedona Fire Medics arrived to take over emergency medical care.

    B. Winick sustained a life threatening head injury and was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center via helicopter by the Sedona Fire Department. The Sedona Police Department will provide further information regarding B. Winick’s injury status as soon as possible. R. Bemis did not receive any injuries. The collision is currently under investigation by the Sedona Police Department. Anyone with information pertaining to this collision please contact Sgt. Michael Dominguez at 928-203-5001.
