In “The Public”, an unusually bitter Arctic blast has made its way to downtown Cincinnati and the front doors of the public library where the action of the film takes place.

At odds with library officials — librarians Stuart Goodson (Emilio Estevez) and Myra (Jena Malone) — over how to handle the extreme weather event, some homeless patrons turn the building into a shelter for the night by staging an “Occupy” sit in. What begins as an act of civil disobedience becomes a stand-off with police and a rush-to-judgment media constantly speculating about what’s really happening.

This David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation’s most challenging issues, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library.

    “Fantastic … a feel-good crowd-pleaser.” — We Live Entertainment

    “Laugh-out-loud funny.” — Steve Oldfield, Warm 98.5

“The Public” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre May 5-8. Showtimes will be 7 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, May 5 and 6; and 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7 and 8.

    Whack – A – Mole War

It looks like the tried-and-true method of armed conflict where armies face each other and kill until somebody wins or gives up, now all it takes is assassinating the leadership Israeli style. We enter a new phase of war where the leaders are killed first rather than last as in conventional warfare.
