Arizona Department of Environmental QualityVerde Valley AZ (February 2, 2012) – Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials announced today that the second free electronics waste recycling event for Camp Verde and the Yavapai-Apache Nation will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Bashas’ supermarket in Camp Verde, 650 W. Finnie Flats Road.

ADEQ and its partners – Town of Camp Verde, Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce, Yavapai-Apache Nation and E-Waste Harvesters — anticipate collecting tons of unwanted televisions, computer equipment, monitors, batteries, chargers, cell phones, VCRs, CD and DVD players, printers, small appliances, fax machines, stereos, cables and cords during the event. In April 2010, more than 6.5 tons of electronics waste – 13,140 pounds – were collected in the earlier event at Camp Verde.

“We had more than 100 vehicles turn out for our first event in Camp Verde and the feedback was very positive,” said ADEQ Director Henry Darwin. “This is a great opportunity for those living in the Camp Verde area to dispose of all the unwanted electronics they have collected over the years while at the same time ensuring that this potentially toxic stream of waste is disposed of responsibly and does not take up valuable landfill space.”

Companies and individuals donating e-waste will receive a certificate of disposal for their records from E-Waste Harvesters if they want the document. E-Waste Harvesters will erase all hard drives with state of the art software and recycles all materials in accordance with state and federal regulations.

ADEQ has sponsored 52 events around the state and collected more than 1.3 million pounds of e-waste from more than 10,000 vehicles since beginning its free electronics waste recycling program in August 2009.
