Mary D. Fisher Theatre is the home for the opera simulcast and encore events
Sedona AZ (March 21, 2019) – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the next Met Live Opera presentation of Richard Wagner’s “Die Walküre” on Saturday, March 30. There will be two shows that day at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre: 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Plan to come early as Ginny Fox will lead a pre-opera talk one hour before each production (8 a.m. for the morning show and 3 p.m. for the encore).
The second installment of Wagner’s Ring cycle, “Die Walküre”, stars heroic soprano Christine Goerke as the warrior goddess Brünnhilde, whose encounter with the mortal twins Siegmund and Sieglinde, sung by Stuart Skelton and Eva-Maria Westbroek, leads her on a journey from Valhalla to earthbound humanity. Philippe Jordan conducts.
“Die Walküre” has long stood on its own as an evening of extraordinarily powerful theater. Part of this appeal lies in its focus on some of the Ring’s most interesting characters at decisive moments of their lives: Wotan, the leader of the gods; his wife, Fricka; his twin offspring, Siegmund and Sieglinde; and, above all, Wotan’s warrior daughter Brünnhilde. These characters and others follow their destinies to some of Wagner’s most remarkable music.
The Met Live Opera’s “Die Walküre” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Saturday, March 30 at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The pre-opera talks will take place one hour before each show. Tickets are $25 general admission, $22 for Film Festival members, and $15 for students. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
