Sedona AZ (December 15, 2011) – On December 14, 2011, the Sedona City Council held a work session to discuss the project prioritization process and possible acceleration of the 2005 Storm Drain Master Plan. The meeting may be viewed on the City’s website at www.SedonaAZ.gov. Click on the Video button on the home page, go to the City Council tab, and select Special City Council for December 14.
During this meeting, Council agreed by consensus on the following:
- Stay with the current Storm Drain Master Plan.
- Look for opportunities to accelerate the Master Plan through possible utilization of excess reserves and providing the necessary staffing resources, including a project engineer.
- Develop a more comprehensive approach to preventative maintenance, including education, enforcement, and more intensive inspections and cleaning of the drainages and culverts prior to monsoon season, which might require additional funding in the spring from the contingency fund.
- Invite the Slow Water Group to issue a proposal to City Council.
- Engage the Coffeepot and Tlaquepaque area businesses for solutions to drainage problems in their areas.
- Search for other sources of revenue from grants, county flood control funds and other resources.
- Use methods to get the word out to the community. This might include funding in the next fiscal year for education and advertising.
