Hope and Frustration on 89a in West Sedona

ANIMATED LOGO1Sedona, AZ  (November 7, 2011) November 5 came as a cold and windy day to show support for the Occupy Wall Street Movement. And yet Sedona residents stepped out along Highway 89a outside Bank of America in West Sedona to voice their concerns and hopes for the future. The event was coordinated through MoveOn.org , as a part of the nationwide movement of Occupy Wall Street.

The Occupy Wall Street movement comes as a much needed response to decades of growing inequality, financial deregulation, and zero accountability for the crimes that brought about our current economic crisis. Millions throughout the nation and across globe who feel they have no voice in our political system have come to embrace “Occupy” as an expression of their anger, frustration and hope. “I think it will take awhile, but I think eventually we will be successful”, said Karoline Hermes, a Sedona resident. The demonstration was orderly and peaceful. There were no police interventions and no arrests.

As people across the globe are waking up to the fact that the monetary collapse comes as a result of banking practices that have been in place for 100 years, demonstrations have been taking place. Small towns and large cities are seeing people marching in protest. Not all demonstrations are as peaceful as Sedona. Oakland, California and New York have seen mass arrests as people refuse to disperse. Currencies in Europe are collapsing and national debts are not being repaid. It seems every country owes every other country money. The world is slowly sinking into the debt abyss with no ability to repay these loans. Some say a one world currency is just around the next curve.

“No more corporate contributions to campaigns, that would be my number one wish” states Karoline Hermes, “That would be a start”.
