logo_svacSedona AZ (January 2, 2014) – The Sedona Visual Artists’ Coalition’s Annual Fall Exhibition, Shadows…a Mystery in Art, presented a wide array of visual stimulation for the Sedona community in November with nearly sixty artists in and around the Verde Valley displaying ceramics, paintings, installation art, photography, and sculpture, and SVAC thanks the community for attending and supporting the event in its thirteenth year. Additionally, SVAC congratulates the Award winners from the exhibit. Lynn Toneri won the Peoples’ Choice Award with her painting titled, “Into the Wind” which is one of six paintings in a series which uses ravens as her subject. “Nothing to do with folklore, just my fascination with their comical behavior,” Toneri says of her attraction to ravens. “The colors reflected from the light on their feathers gave me an endless opportunity to portray their character.”

Craig states, “The obscure symbols hidden in the painting embody the myriad life forms in various stages as they emerge from the darkness toward the light. Traces of gold symbolize the ropes and ladders guiding them to their final path.”

20140102__Gale-Craig-EMERGENCESVAC is now gearing up for its Annual Open Studios Tour held every spring in Sedona by hosting a discussion on January 16 at the SVAC General Meeting which begins at 6:00 pm. The topic for discussion will be “Everything you wanted to know about SVAC Open Studios, but didn’t think to ask.” SVAC Member Meetings are held at 54 Bowstring Drive, located off Hwy. 179 just north of the Morgan Road roundabout. All artists, and members of the public, are welcome to attend.

Anyone can participate in SVAC events and exhibitions by becoming a member as an individual or as a family. SVAC is an inclusive organization that welcomes artists at all levels and provides a sense of belonging. Benefits of membership also include participation in Open Studios, a web page on the SVAC interactive website, and an opportunity to participate and interact with SVAC committees which help solidify the arts in our community. SVAC is also very proud of their Inter-Generational Mentoring Program where members bring the fine arts into the schools and to adult daycare organizations.
