SEDONA, Ariz. – To extend pavement life and improve the road quality for Sedona motorists, the city of Sedona and their contractor, Sunland Asphalt, begins a crack seal project on the following roads the week of Sept. 21, 2026:
Chapel Hill Estates No.2
- Hozoni Drive
- Rodeo Road, from SR 89A to Sanborn Drive
- Little Elf Drive & Sugarloaf Trailhead Parking Lot
- Sanborn Drive & Thunder Mountain Road to Rhapsody Rd
- Back O’Beyond Road
Crack sealing is a technique that involves filling roadway cracks with a hot asphalt sealant to prevent water and debris from entering and causing more deterioration. The roadways may be re-striped following crack seal operations, where applicable.
Contractors’ expected work hours are 7 a.m. through 4 p.m. but work may happen Monday – Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No road closures are anticipated for crack sealing, however, please be aware of moving flagging operations during this work.
To avoid conflicts with construction equipment and expedite completion of the project, the city asks that drivers avoid on-street parking along the affected roadways while construction is underway. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained when possible, however, temporary restrictions may occur when crack sealing operations are taking place. This is a fast-moving process, and each specific area will be completed within one or two days.
Crack sealing is a vital preventative maintenance treatment usually applied ahead of other surface treatments as a first step in maintaining roadways.
