About Sedona.biz
Sedona.biz is a hyperlocal independent news publication serving Sedona, Arizona and the surrounding Verde Valley. Founded in 2011 by publisher Tommy Acosta, we cover local government, business, arts, culture, real estate, and community life with a focus on the people, places, and decisions that shape our region. Our perspective is local and our voice is independent: we do not answer to a corporate parent.
Editorial Mission
Our mission is to inform Sedona and Verde Valley residents, plus visitors who care about the region, through reporting that prioritizes accuracy, fairness, and accountability. We give a platform to a range of community voices, including columnists with whom our editorial team may disagree, because public discussion belongs to the public.
Accuracy & Verification
We strive for accuracy in everything we publish. Facts presented as facts are checked against primary sources whenever practical: official documents, on-the-record interviews, government records, and named sources. Where information cannot be independently verified, we say so. When we cite a third-party publication, we identify it.
Corrections Policy
When we get something wrong, we fix it openly. Our corrections process:
- Report it. Use the Contact form to send the article URL, the specific claim in question, and any supporting documentation.
- We review. A member of the editorial team reviews the claim, contacts the original author when relevant, and verifies the correction against source material.
- We update the article. When a correction is warranted, we edit the article and append a dated correction note explaining what was changed and why.
- Significant corrections are timestamped. The updated date on the article reflects when the correction was applied.
We do not silently revise articles. Material corrections are always disclosed.
Independence & Conflicts of Interest
Sedona.biz is owned and operated by publisher Tommy Acosta. We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage, and we do not take direction on news judgment from advertisers, sponsors, or political organizations. Where a contributor has a known financial or personal interest in a story they’re writing about, we disclose it in the article.
News vs. Opinion
We publish both news reporting and opinion. Articles tagged or framed as commentary, op-eds, columns, or letters to the editor represent the views of their author, not the publication. Our regular columnists write in their own voices and reach their own conclusions, and we give them latitude.
Sponsored Content
Sponsored articles, advertorials, and posts written on behalf of advertisers are labeled as such in compliance with Federal Trade Commission guidelines. If you see a “Sponsored Content” or similar disclosure tag, the article is paid placement and not independent reporting.
Sourcing
When we use information from a press release, government agency, court document, or another publication, we attribute it. Anonymous sources are used sparingly and only when the information serves a clear public interest and cannot be obtained on the record.
