Sedona News – The Sedona Community & Youth Orchestra (SC&YO) invites the public to an evening of vibrant, intergenerational music-making at its Spring Concert, From Mozart to Magic: A Musical Rainbow, on Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the Sedona Performing Arts Center. While admission is free, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations in support of “Project Fill The Need,” a local food bank initiative serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in the Sedona area.

This uplifting concert features musicians ages 9 to 72 performing a colorful and dynamic program that reflects the power of music to transcend generations and genres. Audiences will journey through dramatic landscapes with Grieg’s beloved Peer Gynt Suite, gallop into excitement with Rossini’s iconic William Tell Overture, and dive into whimsical fantasy with Danny Elfman’s enchanting score from Alice in Wonderland. Also featured are highlights from the Amadeus film soundtrack—an expressive medley for string orchestra including excerpts from Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22, Piano Concerto No. 20, Confutatis from the Requiem, and Symphony No. 25. The concert includes magical themes from Harry Potter and a heartfelt orchestral arrangement of Over the Rainbow in the spirit of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s Hawaiian-style interpretation—a moving tribute to unity, hope, and the magic of music.

“We’re so proud of this ensemble, which reflects the power of music to unite people of all ages and backgrounds,” said SC&YO Co-Founders and Co-Directors Kristina Beachell and Courtney Yeates. “This concert is a celebration not only of musical growth but also of community spirit, and we’re excited to share that with our audience.”

I attended last night’s concert at the magnificent Sedona Performing Arts Center and was blown away–first by the wonderful performance by so many talented musicians and second by the incredible generosity in the form of non-perishable food donations given to the Project Fill the Need Food Pantry by the concert’s attendees.

We are so lucky to live in this community!

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
