Sedona News – Yavapai College’s Sedona Center is pleased to present an inspiring art exhibit featuring the works of accomplished local artist, Francis Leon Beegle.

The Doorway to Art, opening March 5 and running through May 15, allows visitors to experience the evocative and masterful pieces that reflect the artist’s deep connection to realism and naturalism.

Drawn to art since childhood, Francis was first fascinated by pencil drawing. In time, she expanded her repertoire to include oil and pastel painting by studying the techniques of the great masters to better understand atmosphere, light, and color. Frequent visits to museums continue to inspire her, as does instruction from esteemed artists such as Don Rantz, Harold Nelson, Christine Debrosky, and Derek Penix.

A dedicated member of the Prescott arts community, Francis works in the Mountain Artists Guild, serving as a Board Member and Education Coordinator – and with the Phippen Art Museum, where she volunteers and teaches multiple classes. Her passion for plein air painting is further enriched by her engagement with Plein Air Artists and ongoing artistic development through workshops and podcasts.

“My paintings are a reflection of my experiences, whether gathered from travels abroad, visits to other states, or the beauty right outside my back door,” says Francis. “Every picture tells a story, and I aim to bring viewers along on my journey, evoking emotion and light through my work.”

The exhibit will be open Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at the Yavapai College Sedona Center, 4215 Arts Village Drive, in Sedona. This showcase highlights artists who are members or instructors of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) or Yavapai College’s Community Education programs.

Art enthusiasts are invited to join us for a special Artists’ Reception on Wednesday, March 5, from 1 to 3 p.m., where guests can meet Francis and gain insight into her creative process.

For inquiries, please contact the Yavapai College Sedona Center at 928-649-4270 or email ollisv@yc.edu.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
