Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Ireland” and “Greece: Secrets of the Past” showing Feb. 9-15 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. The two award-winning films will show in one package.

    IRELAND

Embark on a thrilling journey to the island of Ireland in the new big-screen documentary “Ireland”, narrated by Liam Neeson. The stunning natural wonders and rich, cultural heritage of the Emerald Isle come alive in this visually-stunning cinematic experience.

Be whisked away to iconic Ireland landmarks like Trinity College Library and the world’s most famous illuminated manuscript, The Book of Kells, to such spectacular natural landmarks as the giant Cliffs of Moher, the volcanic Giant’s Causeway and the rugged Skellig Islands where researchers are studying local puffins. Led by Irish writer Manchán Magan, violinist Patricia Treacy and four Irish teens looking to connect with their Irish heritage, audiences will rediscover the vibrant traditions, language, and sacred customs of this ancient land.

Ireland has long captivated the world’s imagination with its rich history and picturesque landscapes. “Ireland” intertwines Ireland’s ancient past with its vibrant future, and ignites a new appreciation for the vast, natural beauty and fascinating, cultural traditions of this magical place.

    GREECE: SECRETS OF THE PAST

Explore the beautiful Greek islands and be transported on a modern-day journey through time and place. See how the island of Santorini was formed and how the island’s volcanic eruption, one of the biggest explosions in Earth’s history, occurred.

We will follow a team of archeologists piecing together the puzzles of ancient history and learn how the field of archeology has progressed. Innovative computer-generated imaging will restore the Parthenon to its original glory, showcasing how the ancient monument looked in its prime. And we will trace some of our modern society’s customs — democracy, medicine, athletics and theatre — back to their roots in the Golden Age of Greece.

“Ireland” and “Greece: Secrets of the Past” will show together at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres Feb. 9-15. Showtimes will be Friday, Saturday and Monday, Feb. 9, 10 and 12 at 6:30 p.m.; and Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 14 and 15 at 4:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit: www.SedonaFilmFestival.org.
