logo sedonapubliclibrarySedona AZ (December 4, 2012) – This holiday season, bring your children or teens to Sedona Public Library to enjoy a variety of programs and displays.

On Saturday, December 8, Sedona Library staff and volunteers will present a family holiday program in the Si Birch Community Room from 11 am to noon. The program will include stories, songs, puppets, and craft activities. There will also be a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa!

You will find wonderful displays that include some of the best Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Las Posadas books for children of all ages. Also during the month of December, we’re displaying a special collection of pop-up books. Although these books aren’t available for check-out, families are welcome to enjoy the pop-ups while visiting the Library.

Tweens are invited to join the new Sedona Library Tween Book Club. The club has met twice so far and currently has nine active members, ranging in age from 9 to 12. The group includes homeschoolers and students of three different area schools. New participants are welcome to enroll anytime and can pick up a copy of the upcoming book at the youth services desk. The children meet at the library one Saturday a month to discuss the current club title, enjoy snacks, and talk about topics of interest. As a group, they develop the content for the monthly Tween Book Club Newsletter, which is then put together by the club’s facilitator, Laurie Cameron.

We are very fortunate to have Laurie Cameron as our book club host. Laurie is a blogger, book reviewer, weaver, and writer of children’s novels. She is co-author of three recently published titles that make up the Acorn Mysteries series. Laurie will lead six book discussions for the club, scheduled through May 2013. Please check our events calendar for dates.

Sedona Public Library will be participating in the Sedona Marathon on February 2, 2013. Please consider joining the Library team as we walk the 5 K or sponsoring our team.

A challenge is hereby issued: If I collect a minimum of $2,013.00 in pledges by race day, , I will complete the entire 5K Sedona Marathon with a copy of my favorite book and a monkey balanced on my head. A monkey? Seriously! The official pledge sheet will be at the youth reference desk until the race. The Library is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your marathon pledges are tax deductible. Thanks for your support!

It Takes a Lifetime and Sometimes Even More

    By Amaya  Gayle

Sedona, AZ — It takes a lifetime (perhaps lifetimes) of stretching and expanding, ripping and tearing, just to move through one’s predispositions, to meet one’s inbred resistance and evolve to the grace of simple tolerance. During this precious part of the journey, it feels like you are taking the steps, are choosing right, left or straight ahead, that you are in the game.
