Yavapai County Sheriff's OfficeVerde Valley News – The Golden Plate Awards program recognizes establishments
that strive for excellence in food safety standards and is awarded by the Yavapai County Community Health Services in cooperation with the Yavapai County Food Safety Industry Council and the University of Arizona.

With a monthly average of 50,000 meals or 550,000 meals served every year, YCSO Detention services (YCSODS) staff have shown superior commitment and dedication to the agency. Even though the past
two years were heavily disrupted by staffing shortages, consistent menu changes due to supply issues, quarantines, delays in equipment repair, as well as the uncertainty and fear that the COVID19 pandemic brought to the table, this will be the third Golden Plate Awarded to YCSO Detention in the last four years.

All food establishments in the county must meet a minimum Food Code requirement, however, there
are few who consistently excel and YCSODS is one of only 231 establishments in Yavapai County to be
awarded and commended for exceptional food handling practices. “This recognition doesn’t happen
without dedication from the entire team and evidences the caliber of each of our team members”, says
    YCSO Business Manager Heather Closson.

YCSO Detention Services Division Commander Brent Kimbriel adds, “We are extremely proud of the hard
work and attention to detail our staff gives everyday within our Detention Food Services Department.
Preparing and serving the high volume of meals, and accommodating a variety of diets, makes this
award even more special to receive.”

    The Bloody Machine
    By Tommy Acosta
What is a life anyway? A single “life?” Is it nothing more than a collection of emotions and thoughts, reverberating pain and pleasure, hopes, dreams and fear? Are we merely meat; flesh and blood creations encapsulating what we believe is a soul? Or is a single life the microcosm and macrocosm of human life on earth, each one of us a unique representation of who we believe we are and the whole of humanity at once? We are born. We grow old. We die. Everything we experience is but a dream between those two points. Or are we manifestations of a Divine Creator, every one of us complete in the image that we were made? So, we are told.
