logo_ksbSedona AZ (August 24, 2016) – The topic of “Arizona Water Sentinels and Water Quality in the Verde Watershed” will be featured at KSB’s Wednesday September 14th Preserving the Wonder™ Speaker Series.

Members, residents and visitors are all welcome to join Keep Sedona Beautiful (“KSB”) at 5:30 p.m. at its historic Pushmataha Center on 360 Brewer Road.  The evening will include complimentary appetizers donated by El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano and refreshments provided by KSB.

20160826_OakCreekAccording to Jennifer Martin, Water Sentinels Program Coordinator for the Sierra Club – Grand Canyon Chapter, “The Verde is one of the most ecologically significant watersheds in the State, as well as the source of drinking water for millions of people.  It is also one of the most threatened.  The work of the Arizona Water Sentinels helps track water quality on the river so management agencies have hard information on which they can base their decisions and plans.”

Ms. Martin will discuss how the program works to protect, improve and restore Arizona rivers and streams by promoting volunteer water quality monitoring, public education and citizen action for clean water within the state.

Since its establishment in 2006, the Arizona Water Sentinels program has trained, equipped and fielded hundreds of volunteers who have participated in water quality and flow monitoring, stream clean-ups, and stream restoration projects across the state.  It seeks to organize people at the grass roots level to build communities of effective advocates for watershed protection in Arizona. The organization has maintained a continuous set of data on the Verde River since 2006.

Ms. Martin has lived in Arizona all of her life.  She is an NAU graduate, a returned Peace Corps Volunteer and a former Arizona Game and Fish Commissioner.

Keep Sedona Beautiful’s monthly Preserving the Wonder™ Speaker Series is held the second Wednesday of each month from September to May.  It focuses on presenting a diversity of programs relevant to the unique environment of our region.

Keep Sedona Beautiful, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that, by acting through the stewardship of its members and volunteers, is committed to protecting and sustaining the unique scenic beauty and natural environment of the Greater Sedona Area.  For more information about Keep Sedona Beautiful, please call 928.282.4938, or visit http://www.keepsedonabeautiful.org/.
