Rotary Club of SedonaSedona AZ (November 22, 2020) – During November members of the Rotary Club of Sedona Village kicked off the holiday season early with three community outreach events.

The Club’s first 100 Holes of Golf tournament drew forty-three golfers competing as eleven teams at the Oak Creek Country Club on November 7. Raising over $8,000 for the Special Olympics Golf Program of Northern Arizona as well as Rotary projects, the event was a success, even on a windy day. The winning team included William Eaton, Kevin Reno, David Bill and Ed Southwell.

Veterans’ Day found Village Rotarians, led by Rob Schaefer, recognizing Veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Services at Sedona Winds Assisted Living Center. In a moving ceremony, color guard members of Scout Troop 7048 raised the American Flag and shared their thoughts about what the United States flag means to them. Jeannie Carrol provided a stirring musical program that all enjoyed.

The Village Rotary’s Community Garden project continues to make progress. With the cooperation of Fall weather, Village Rotarians and community volunteers have worked three weekends transforming the baseball field at Big Park School into a garden to be shared by all. The latest workday on Nov. 21 started the task of building the first of 20 raised garden beds, about half of what is planned. There also was work done on the butterfly and pollinating garden. Cinder blocks for the project were donated by Builders First Source in West Sedona.

The club’s mission: Where neighbors, friends and problem solvers share ideas, join leaders, and take action to create beneficial change within our local and worldwide communities. Members gather via zoom twice monthly for club meetings. Visitors are welcome to join the zoom meetings by emailing president@sedonavillagerotary.org for the zoom link.
