    logo_UniversityWomenOfSedonaSedona AZ (February 24, 2016) – Victoria Rivers, Professor Emeritas  in Design at University of California Davis, will be the featured speaker at the March 7th meeting of University Women.   Ms. Rivers Has received a host of honors including a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship, A Fulbright/Indo-American Fellowship for research in India, and a US Artist Abroad award through the US Department of State.   Ms. Rivers has presented her research and her art work nationally and internationally.    She also authored a book entitled The Shining Cloth:  Dress and Adornment that Glitter, which received a Reader’s Choice award.   “Researching Endangered Textiles Around the World” will be the topic of her presentation to University Women of Sedona.

    The University Women of Sedona meet the first Monday of the month, October through June.  A social time begins at 9:30, followed by the guest speaker and a short business meeting.  All women who are university or college graduates are welcome to attend.    The meetings are held at the Church of the Red Rocks,  54 Bowstring Drive, Sedona.

    The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols

    Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
