Verde Valley News – Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit patient safety steward that sets standards for hospitals. Leapfrog assigns a letter grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. The award is an independent testament to the care NAH provides patients in our community.

“A big congratulations to the entire staff at VVMC for receiving an ‘A’ grade for Fall 2024 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades,” said Dave Cheney, CEO of Northern Arizona Healthcare. “It makes me so proud to see our hardworking staff nationally recognized, especially when it’s something as important as hospital safety. I know how hard each of our colleagues work at providing the best care, and this award shows just how committed NAH is to providing the highest quality of care to each patient, every time,” Cheney added.

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for VVMC,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to VVMC, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, excellence in preventing hospital-acquired infections and complications and staff-to-patient rations that ensure safety is a top priority. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring. Out of 50 hospitals in Arizona rated by The Leapfrog Group, only 14 of them received an ‘A’ grade, including VVMC and NAH’s Flagstaff Medical Center.
