logo_verdebrewingcompanyCamp Verde AZ (February 26, 2013) – Verde Brewing Company, a new nano brewery in Camp Verde, is running a 35 day campaign on Kickstarter.com to raise $15,000 in order to open the business on Main Street. Verde Brewing Company (VBC) plans to harvest, produce and distribute beer from the Verde Valley of Arizona. The Kickstarter campaign was launched on February 25th and will close Monday, April 1st.

Kickstarter.com is a funding platform for creative projects. Kickstarter.com has helped everything from films and music to art and technology, by connecting individuals to fund creative projects. It has given rural areas like the Verde Valley the technology to be able to tap into people who share the same passions to fund projects, regardless of their location.

20130226_verdebrewingThe Verde Valley is renowned for its agricultural resources which the VBC will utilize to make their beer not only unique, but fresher and greener. VBC will be a farm to mug brewery. Local grown hops, barely, wheat, apples, apricots, plums, corn, blackberries, watermelon, squash, grapes, and pecans are just some of the crops that can be brewed into VBC beer. The natural resources already found within the Verde Valley will cater to a small barrel brewing system that will be used to experiment in creating unique hand crafted brews.

VBC will work with established businesses in Camp Verde to develop a community oriented cooperative brewing experience. VBC will work with local farmers to provide crops for brewing. VBC will also partner with The Horn for distributing the beer. The grain debris leftover from the brewery process will be shared with local cattle growers to help sustain their cattle and support the meat industry of the Verde Valley. The meat industry will help supply the Horn and other local restaurants with beef. This domino effect throughout the business community will not only help give back but also develop a sustainable chain of cooperation.

VBC is hoping to tap into people who have a thirst for handcrafted brews and interest in supporting local businesses and farming in order to fund their campaign. Kickstarter has allowed the VBC to invite everyone with an interest in investing financially supporting the opening of a new nano brewery, to be located on Main Street, at the heart of the entertainment district, in downtown Camp Verde, Arizona.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
