… the rainy/snowy weather continues and I am ready for a peek at the sun and so are the beautiful creatures that I shoot, so here are a couple of them in sunnier days … I still have not done any shooting this year so these are from sunny days in the year just past.

Above we have a photo of a juvenile bald eagle just taking to flight … her talons are still spread out and she is already into her third wing beat (I started shooting before she took off and it is easy to count them). Perhaps this year or next she will reach maturity (at about 5-5.5 years of age) and have the iconic white head and tail feathers … lots of white in her feathers now.

Below is a photo of an Osprey fishing in the pond at Rainbow Trout Farm in Oak Creek Canyon … he missed the trout on his initial dive into the water and not one to give up, he continued fishing using his talons for bait (and the fish hooks). A few seconds after I took this shot he caught a nice rainbow trout and took off with his lunch well secured by his talons.

Tomorrow the sun makes an appearance and it will be beautiful with snow on the upper reaches of the red rocks … sunshine and clouds with the wonderful Arizona blue sky as background. Have a beautiful day and smile … a great year is underway!

    Cheers,

    Ted

It is the wonder of the western sky
That makes one ache for whispered words at dusk,
For tenderness that drives away all care,
As dark pursues the lingering light of day.

The Sad Lesson of Tyre Nichols
    By Tommy Acosta
Having grown up in the mean streets of the Bronx there is one lesson we learn early on, and that’s don’t mess with the cops when they got you down, and outnumbered. The beating of Tyre Nichols at the hands of the police preceding his death at the hospital could have been avoided if only he had the sense to not resist them. People fail to understand that on the streets, cops are basically “God.” You can’t fight them. If it takes one, two, five, ten or twenty officers they will eventually put you down and hurt you if they have to in the process of detaining or arresting you. In the Bronx we would fight amongst ourselves but when the cops came it was “Yes, officer. No, officer,” and do our best to look as innocent as possible. People need to understand that cops on the street represent the full power of the state and government. Read more→
