By Ted Grussing
… they say that for every action there is a reaction … this image is of the reaction to a drop of water being dropped into a bowl of water. Every once in a while it is fun to just set up and shoot some off the wall stuff and figure out how to get a shot that is worth keeping. The art of abstract photography … and this falls within that definition.
To get the shot, I put a sheet of plastic on the dining room table, then a very absorbent towel … a table top tent on top of that and then I set the bowl of water in the middle of it. I used two arrays of LED lights outside the tent for illumination. The camera was mounted on a mini custom tripod (thank you Steve) and I used a cable release to free me up for the important task of making accurate water drops into the bowl from an opening in the top of the tent. Simple technique, as you release a drop of water you begin shooting and then you see what you get. All camera settings including focus are manual and set before you begin to shoot … everything you never wanted to know about shooting drops of water … but what a fun way to spend an afternoon.
A beautiful day lived today and now time to put a wrap on it and get some rest … espresso only five hours away! Live for the now and fill each moment with joy and wonder … life is meant to be wondrous and like the little column of water, beauty, however brief is remembered and carries forward long after it is gone.
Smiles,
Ted
At nightfall…though I know I shall sometime no more
Open my eyes to the light or day, I am one who looks at stars when
Unchained from the work-bench at Nightfall.
They are a sign that I am not ephemeral,
Not you, nor you, whoever you are.
The dawn comes and the dark and the sign sparkling in the brooding night,
Forever and forever.
