    … Monday I spent some time at the ponds on my way back from Cottonwood and this time focused on getting some shots of the young fish in two of the ponds. I thought they were fingerlings, but one of the guys from Game and Fish let me know that these fish are called “subs.” Fingerlings are generally considered to be such when they are 4″ or less … “subs” are a little bigger starting around five to six inches and up … “sub” is short for sub legal … in other words, if you catch one you must release it as it is too small to keep.

    I love the shot above because he is out of the water in a nice pose and it appears that he is affixed to a crystal pedestal attached to a watery base … ready to put in a display case!

    Add a few years and he might end up like the fish in the Great Blue Herons mouth … first below. Nature is in balance …

    A very Happy New Year to you … starting my 23rd year of sending out these missives and photos and hope that you continue to enjoy them … download the photos and use them as screen savers, many people do.

    Into a new day and year and I am very optimistic about it … choose to have a good day every morning and do what you can to make the day a thing of beauty for those you see each day! Keep breathing and smiling … if you have friends you forward these emails too, suggest that they sign up to get their own copy.

    Cheers,

    Ted

    Give me to gladly go
    My way and say
    No word of mine own woe;
    But let me smile each day.

    Give me strength to do
    My task, I ask;
    And that I shall not rue
    The toiler’s grimy mask.

    Give one loved hand to me,
    And leave the eve
    All undisturbed as we
    Our strength of souls retrieve.

    And lastly give sweet sleep
    Closed sight, no fright
    That fears will o’er me creep;
    And now a last good-night.

    It Takes a Lifetime and Sometimes Even More

    By Amaya  Gayle

    Sedona, AZ — It takes a lifetime (perhaps lifetimes) of stretching and expanding, ripping and tearing, just to move through one’s predispositions, to meet one’s inbred resistance and evolve to the grace of simple tolerance. During this precious part of the journey, it feels like you are taking the steps, are choosing right, left or straight ahead, that you are in the game.
