… it was a day when we were reminded that parents of all creatures have the responsibility to teach their offspring the skills to survive and thrive in the real world … without these skills creatures would perish!
When we arrived at the spot where we discovered a Bald Eagles nest, we found it empty, and the kids had fledged! I figured they might be out and about somewhere not too far from the nest, and we found them. The kids are likely female as they are already as big as the dad … females in the world of Bald Eagles are substantially larger than the males. The juvenile in the lower left has a creature in her talons and it looks like the one in the upper right corner is trying to catch something too. Dad is in the middle supervising all.
The photo below is a Canada Goose with his/her kids keeping them in check and providing oversight as they learn and grow into adults themselves.
Back up on Red Tail Cliff early in the morning and we’ll see how the kids are doing up there … I think it will be another week or two before they are ready to fledge … maybe I’ll get lucky and get another one on its first flight like I did last year.
What an amazing and wonderful little planet we live on … have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend … we remember those who gave it all so that we can live free! Smile, keep breathing and choose to have wonderful days! Back Monday morning.
Cheers,
Ted
One morn I rose and looked upon the world.
“Have I been blind until this hour?” I said.
O’er every trembling leaf the sun had spread,
And was like golden tapestry unfurled;
And as the moments assed more light was hurled
Upon the drinking earth athirst for light;
And I, beholding all this wondrous sight,
Cried out aloud, “O God, I love Thy world!”
And since that waking, often I drink deep
The joy of dawn, and peace abides with me;
And though I know that I again shall see
Dark fear with withered hand approach my sleep,
More sure am I when lonely night shall flee,
At dawn the sun will bring good cheer to me.
