… I talked with my daughter Jogi last night (I wanted Gigi, Cork wanted Joleen … Joleen it was and we chose the nickname Jogi for her … a compromise that worked) and in the course of our conversation she asked what I had for dinner and I replied a really crappy dinner. She asked what I had and I told her a can of Hormel Corn Beef Hash on top of a bed of Romaine lettuce ( at least it was torn) with Blue Cheese dressing on top of the lettuce, but below the corn beef hash. She said that is bad, really bad … “you didn’t have the salad separate”? “No”… “that sucking sound as you get the hash out of the can”? “Yes”! “That is as pathetic as you can get … you didn’t have the salad separate”? “Nope”! “Dad, you are right, that is about as bad as a meal can get”!!!

So tonight I determined to cook a good meal and I did, and it even tasted good with enough left over for two more meals. Ground beef, drippings drained, with a can of petite diced tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, celery, onions and black olives with Italian seasonings and served with the salad separate. Yay for me, I’m climbing back up the quality food ladder. That said I do like corn beef hash, spam and other processed food; I think it was when she said “that sucking sound” as you get the food product out of the can I felt like there was no lower I could go!

Thank you Jogi, … may I ask how you know it makes a sucking sound when you are getting it out of the can?????

When in New York City stop in for some fabulous pizza at Juliana’s: http://julianaspizza.com/  it is kinda in the family and receives consistently top reviews!

Another fabulous day working on photos all day getting ready for the concert this Saturday at the Mary Fisher Theater – 7PM. Anthony sold out Sound Bites Saturday night and it is looking like this concert will be sold out too. Hope to see you there.

I didn’t see massive color whilst back in Minnesota/Wisconsin, but did see some truly magnificent individual trees and this is one of them. Looking forward to next September when I go back up there.

One is beginning to go out with me under very close supervision and she is tentatively enjoying it as she begins to explore our yard … but after about fifteen minutes she always bolts back into the house and is happy to be in this very safe no other animals allowed environment where she rules.

Need to get a couple of hours of reading in before I call it a night. Reading two books: “Shot Down” by friend Steve Snyder and “Land of the Saints “ by friend and law school classmate Robert P. DesJardins. Excellent books both.

Have a terrific day and share a smile with someone today … avoid canned corn beef hash!

    Cheers

    O Passer-by, O passer-by!
Have you good words of me
Upon your lips as I draw nigh
    To you each day?
    If so, I ask
    That you’d them say,
For soon I’m gone and cannot hear,
    So speak the kindly word
I beg, and smile while I’m yet near …

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
