… I spent most of the afternoon roaming the plateau and lakes looking for birds with a friend today and while we saw a few raptors and other birds. No shots worth keeping, but on the way back we stopped at the Rainbow Trout Farm and got some great shots. As we pulled up, friends spotted a Black Hawk finishing off his dinner and I got a series of keepers. The photo above shows him finishing off the last few morsels of Rainbow Trout … then he left.
The photo below is a Great Blue Heron at the Trout Farm, that has just speared a trout with his beak and is leaving the water to eat it on dry land. Herons take their prey in one swallow, head first down the hatch … hawks on the other hand, hold the fish with their talons and use their beaks to rip pieces off … same result, different method and nourishment has been consumed.
Into the weekend … have fun and choose to make every day a good one!
Cheers,
Ted
Spare me from bitterness and from the sharp
passions of unguarded moments. May I not
forget that poverty and riches are of the spirit.
Though the world know me not, may my thoughts
and actions be such as shall keep me friendly
with myself.
