… what a a day we had cruising the country/forest service roads up on the plateau today … we spent time around Marshall Lake (really more of a wetlands) and Ashurst Lake and the roads around them. It was surprising how much life we found!
at the first open water we found at Marshall Lake a woman was walking her Grand Pyrenees dog and he decided to go for a swim and get a drink … really a sweet not so little guy and it was fun watching him frolic in the water. The wildlife in the area weren’t upset with him or our presence … across the open pond a Yellow Headed Black Bird was collecting his breakfast and as he clings to a couple of reeds you can see the insect, he has just caught … two frames later, it had been ingested.
Then there is the photograph of an Osprey nest that we found … Mom and her two fledglings were in the nest and the two kids were having a dispute over the allocation of food … one of them snatches a talon full of fish and decided to get out of Dodge with his ill-gotten prize. You can almost see a gleam in his eyes and satisfaction in making off with the food … parts of it are scattered in the air behind him as he drops down below the nest. Mom has that what have I brought into the world look and the sibling is trying to figure out what just happened!
While we were still shooting the Ospreys the thunderstorms moved in and that was it for the day … back up there next week and maybe we’ll get some more great shots!
Have a beautiful day and spend some time in nature … there is so much life out there and creatures we share the planet with … keep breathing and smiling … we are blessed!
Cheers,
Ted
I bring but this one common thought
My life has wrought;
That from the dregs of drear despair
Still everywhere
There is a joy I yet may sip—
‘Tis comradeship
With all mankind, the high and low
I know.
