    Thirteen Years of Advocacy: Presentation and Discussion Focuses on Local Non-Profit CWAG’s Work

    logo_cwag3Verde Valley AZ (December 10, 2015) – On Wednesday, December 16th at 10:30 a.m., the public in invited to learn about the efforts of the local non-profit Citizens Water Advocacy Group (CWAG). This free presentation and discussion panel will be at the Yavapai County Administration Building in Prescott, 1015 Fair Street, in the Board Room. This event is part of the Verde River Basin Partnership’s (Partnership) ongoing monthly program series for the public.

    photo_garybeverlyCWAG promotes a sustainable water future in the Upper Verde River Basin and the Prescott Active Management Area by educating the public, encouraging citizen action, and advocating for responsible governmental decision-making. CWAG’s Public Policy Committee Chair Gary Beverly will briefly describe CWAG’s organizational structure and history. He will then discuss CWAG’s efforts to respond to threats to the Upper Verde River through outreach and advocacy.

    Beverly’s 30-minute talk will be followed by a question and answer session with a panel of CWAG Board Members: President Chris Hoy, Vice President Ken Janecek, Science Committee Chair Pete Kroopnick, Media Coordinator Leslie Hoy, and Beverly.     The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
