    The Sedona Women Celebrate Black History Month

    Sedona News – The Sedona Women (TSW) are pleased to celebrate Black History Month, an opportunity to learn about the contributions, sacrifices, and experiences of African Americans through history. Celebrating Black History Month with the Honorable Coral Evans, former Flagstaff Mayor, will be presented on Thursday, February 13th, at Community Library Sedona, where TSW programs are scheduled monthly every second Thursday from September through May from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

    Coral Evans, Ph.D., is a small-business owner, author, and social entrepreneur, with over two decades of experience in community redevelopment, investment, and business. Coral is passionate about community and civic engagement. Her family has been in Arizona for six generations and has been an active part of the Flagstaff and greater Northern Arizona community since the early 1900s. Coral will be sharing her Flagstaff family history and her career.

    Dr. Evans was named one of the Most Intriguing Women of Arizona for 2022 by 48 Arizona Women and the Arizona Historical Society. As Mayor of Flagstaff (2017 – 2020), she was recognized by the Arizona Business Magazine as one of Arizona’s “Most Influential Women in Business.” Other recognitions include The Arizona Community Action Association’s Margie Frost Champion Against Poverty Award, the Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council Cesar E. Chavez Community Award, and the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce Athena Award. She co-produces the award-nominated “Lived Black Experience CommUnity Dialogues” Podcast Series, and is currently the Northern Arizona Director for US Senator Mark Kelly.

    Camilla Ross, the Executive Director of Emerson Theater Collaborative and The Arts Academy of Sedona, will be moderating this presentation.

    This February 13th program is open to the public at Community Library Sedona, 3250 White Bear Road in West Sedona.     The Sedona City Council through a majority consensus voted 5–1 at its Wednesday, August 13, special meeting, to temporarily shelve a controversial auto license-reading surveillance program, with council members  Melissa Dunn, Kathy Kinsella  Brian Fultz,  Derek J. Pfaf and Pete Furman giving a thumbs down,  and Sedona Mayor Scott Jablow supporting the cameras.
