SEDONA, AZ – Professional photographer Bev Pettit will present at the meeting of the Sedona Camera Club starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 27th, at the Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Rd, Sedona. Doors open at 5:30.
Join Bev for an exciting presentation exploring the artistry and experience behind photographing horses—both wild and domestic—across the American West and beyond.
Offering a compelling look at the adventurous side of her work, sharing stories, images, and insight from years spent pursuing the enduring spirit of the horse.
Raised in rural Minnesota, she grew up immersed in horse culture, riding and visiting family cattle farms across the Midwest. Though she holds a degree in fine art, her path into photography has been largely self-directed, guided by curiosity and a strong visual instinct. Her journey began abroad in Hong Kong and London, where she balanced a career in finance with extensive travel and photography throughout Asia and Europe. After returning to the U.S. in 1999, she committed fully to fine art photography, establishing a ranch near Prescott, AZ. There, she raises horses and spends countless hours hiking and photographing her own animals, deepening both her artistic voice and connection to the land.

Her work soon expanded into documenting authentic ranch life in the Prescott area, including time spent with the historic 7 Up Ranch, where she occasionally rode on cattle roundups. This immersive experience sparked a lasting interest in capturing the spirit of working horses and the rhythms of the ranching lifestyle, themes that continue to influence her photography today
A pivotal moment came during a visit to the Return to Freedom Wild Horse Sanctuary in Lompoc, California, where Pettit discovered a passion for photographing wild horses. Since then, she has traveled extensively across North America—from the windswept shores of Sable Island in Nova Scotia to the remote expanses of Sand Wash Basin in Colorado and beyond, often journeying solo in her 4Runner, spending days at a time in the field to document these magnificent animals in their natural environments.
