Sedona News – Sedona’s newest transit service, Sedona Shuttle Connect, launched at the end of August 2024 and has been getting rave reviews, as residents and visitors discover how easy and economical it is to use. In response to questions raised by the community, we developed a Three-Month Report Card providing details about the service’s first months of operation. It shares performance stats like where riders are going, what it costs and how it is funded.

This fall was a breaking-in period for the new service and the technology that enables it. You can use your smartphone to request, track and pay for your ride, and it has been a great success. The TransLoc app has functioned perfectly, with rides arriving within 15 minutes of request and passengers reporting high levels of satisfaction.

Sedona Shuttle Connect is an app-based, on-demand shared ride service that picks up riders at the curb and takes them almost anywhere in Sedona for only $2.00. Read the report, then experience it for yourself by using the service. Visit SedonaShuttle.com to see the service area map and download the TransLoc app. Then book a ride and discover how easy getting around Sedona can be.

Appears the cost per rider in November is $35.50. Round trip of $71 – $4. rider fare = $67 paid by taxpayers. Not sure how this can be considered a successful or sustainable initiative.

Where did you get those numbers? The article says $2.00 not $35-$71.

John is correct. If you open the 3 month report card link in the article, it openly provides the information to do the math. It is a 95% taxpayer funded operation. That is based upon only 5% of the funds being provided by fare payers, the remaining 95% is either local or federally subsized funding. Those are the facts, the rest is how you formulate an opinion about those facts to offer or provide such a service or not. At least one cannot say they do not know where their/these tax dollars are spent… it is to reduce traffic on the Sedona roadways.

Well thanks for your professional OPINION!

You dont understand the purpose of public transportation then.

It is to get people around, get people out of cars, reduce traffic and pollution!

And then there is helping the elderly, disabled, and even children.

Public transportation isnt about turning profits, its about helping people get around!

Those numbers are high because buses get purchase, they use fuel, insurance, safety precautions and professionally trained drivers.

But thanks for your OPINION again!

I can honestly say, having grown up in the Bronx in the 60s, that if it had not been for the Beatles I most likely would have grown up to be a criminal or been killed in a violent gang war.
