Sedona, AZ (August 17, 2015) There’s no doubt education in our state is dismal. Our elected officials at the state level have betrayed the students and parents of Arizona, cutting education by an unconscionable amount and using the money for other budget shortfalls and pet projects. The sadness is our elected leaders would rather spend our tax dollars building jails rather than educating our children.

Some might say our state’s educational system is falling apart. Others might say our system is being systematically dismantled by those standing to make a great profit from jails populated by high-school dropouts who do not have the proper education to compete in today’s markets.

Exacerbating the problem at the local level is the ongoing war of words between various factions in the Sedona community fighting over what they believe is the proper course the city’s school district should take in meeting the challenges posed by the truncated state-education budget.

Confusion has been heaped upon misinformation. Voices have been stifled; threats have been made, all at the expense of the students, teachers, parents and citizens that comprise the school district.

In an effort to provide another voice, another outlet for those in the district who have a message to share or a point of view to express but no place to do so, Sedona.biz has created this platform, Sedona Schools News Corner, as an outlet for all concerned citizens to have their say. Also, as a place where the district can share its successes, accomplishments, honors awards, achievements, etc.

In that we are a cyber publication, we are not limited by space or other constraints that affect print media’s ability to give all a chance to be heard and write to whatever length they should so wish.

This space is open to everyone regardless on what side of the aisle one stands. School board members, administrators, teachers, students, parents and concerned citizens are encouraged to express their views.

All we ask is that we keep the dialogue positive, free of accusations or aspersions. We will not accept negative comments about others. We encourage positive contributions that help mend rather than tear the fabric of our district’s educational system.

Our goal is to heal the divisions rather than increase them.

Feel free to submit your opinions to staff@sedona.biz. We are looking forward to a healed school district unified in heart and effort to provide the best education possible for our children.

Arizona politicians are underfunding an inefficient educational system, creating a division between our citizens and profiting at the same time . The result is our top educators are leaving our state which only compounds the problems as we are left with a void as to who can fix our divided educational system.

Blind state budget cuts and charter schools are not the answer to our educational issues, especially when 61 out of 90 politicians in Phoenix are financially connected to charter schools. We need to vote for state politicians who understand the issues, who will not profit from education, and who will return education to the educators.

Sedona residents understand the importance of education and its impact on our community. We need to again rally together and understand the FACTS. Our local media needs to focus its attention on these state issues and support our local district. As a community, we can only react to the situation,. As voters we can change it.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
