Sedona, AZ — The Sedona Police Department will not join Federal immigration enforcement efforts  in the City nor will it interfere, according to a press release from the city issued  today, January 27.

Below is the statement from the city managers office in its entirety:

” The City of Sedona and the Sedona Police Department are committed to serving our community with dignity, respect and care. The highest priority is the safety and well-being of everyone who lives in, works in and visits Sedona.

We understand that the presence of outside or federal agencies has caused concern for some in our community. We want to take a moment to offer clarity and reassurance.

Sedona Police officers are clearly identifiable when they are carrying out their duties. Our officers do not wear full-face coverings, and their uniforms clearly display Sedona Police Department markings. Transparency and trust matter to us, and Sedona Police officers are expected to identify themselves and always engage with the public professionally and respectfully.

If you ever have questions about a law enforcement interaction or are unsure whether someone is a Sedona Police officer, we encourage you to reach out to us directly. If a situation feels urgent or unsafe, please call 911.

We also want to be clear about our role. The Sedona Police Department does not enforce federal immigration laws. Our responsibility is to uphold local and state laws and to protect public safety for everyone in Sedona.

While we do not participate in federal immigration enforcement, we also cannot interfere with lawful actions taken by other agencies. When necessary, we may work with federal partners on serious criminal matters, always with respect for constitutional rights and community trust.

Sedona Police officers are part of this community. They live in the area, raise families here and care deeply about the people and places that make Sedona home. Federal agencies operating in or around Sedona do not represent the Sedona Police Department, and their actions should not be attributed to our officers or our city.

We thank our community to join us in choosing calm, respectful dialogue over heightened rhetoric. By supporting one another as neighbors, we strengthen trust and help keep Sedona a safe, welcoming place for all.”
