SEDONA, Ariz. – In preparation to launch the new Emergency Siren System in Uptown, the city of Sedona Police Department in collaboration with Coconino County will test sirens on portable trailers on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025 between 1 and 3 p.m. at three locations near the:
- future Uptown Parking Garage
- water tank in residential Uptown off Thompson Tr.
- city building located at 221 Brewer Rd.
By testing both the siren alarm and voice message at each location, results will be measured to evaluate the sound radius and the effectiveness of each potential siren location.
The city of Sedona created the Evacuation and Re-Entry Plan in 2023, which is an all-hazards life and safety response plan. To supplement this plan and to increase communications during an emergency incident, Coconino County Emergency Management applied for and received a federal grant to implement an Emergency Siren System in Uptown. If this pilot program is successful, it could be expanded throughout the city to increase emergency warning capabilities.
“Testing these sirens is a crucial part of implementing this system that will keep our community safe. They will greatly increase our communication methods in case of an emergency, because they are designed to provide immediate warning in the event of a threat. We appreciate your understanding as we carry out these important safety checks for this new pilot program,” said Chief of Police Stephanie Foley.
Final locations of the sirens may change as details are still being evaluated. To learn more about evacuation and re-entry or community preparedness, visit www.sedonaaz.gov/evacuation. Sign up for city of Sedona emergency text alerts by texting the word “Redrocks” to 888777.
